Hi. I’m Keith Fulk, and I’ve lived in Steamboat Springs over 20 years. Like many Steamboat residents, I was attracted to Steamboat Springs as a young man when I came here to ski.
I grew up on a family farm in the rural Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In the 1970’s farm life, we learned to do everything ourselves. If we needed a shed, we didn’t go to Home Depot – we built it. So I learned carpentry skills early, and worked for many years in construction – building custom homes in Virginia and Steamboat Springs.
I’ve been building rustic log furniture full time now for over 13 years in my workshop in Steamboat Springs. Log furniture building was first a hobby. I started building log furniture when I wanted some furniture for my own home. I soon realized that I loved building log furniture, so in the early days of the internet I built a website and quickly attracted clients through my website.
I take great pride in providing you the absolute best hand-crafted log furniture and railing. I make custom, handmade, aspen and beetle kill pine, log or dimensional furniture, and specialize in:
- Custom and unique log furniture beds, dressers, armoires, tables, desks, shelving, benches, and more
- Indoor and Outdoor log furniture
- Log Railings
- Log Mantles
- Log Columns
- Log Home Maintenance
- Deck Maintenance and Repair
- Custom Wood Accents and Furniture
- Interior and exterior log home maintenance and restoration
Every piece of rustic log furniture is custom made to fit your space. It all starts with hand picking the timber – either “beetle kill pine” or dead aspen trees – for each piece of log furniture so that we can turn it into a handmade, original piece that you, and we, can be proud of. I do not use ‘live’ trees. I only use standing dead trees which I harvest myself. The wood I use comes from within a 20 mile radius of Steamboat Springs.
I can do custom log furniture as well as custom wood pieces with any style of wood. But, it is always my preference to promote sustainability and use local resources for your project.
I use only standing dead trees from the local forests, primarily ‘beetle kill pine’ and dead aspen trees for building. Beetle kill pine is a more linear, straighter wood. It will have different colors in the wood that give it more character, red, blue, grey. Aspen wood plank is not straight – it will have more knots, curves and irregularity in the wood. Aspen will have both light and dark color in each piece of wood.
I like building with ‘beetle kill pine’ trees, as the wood is strong and easy to work with, and it’s also beautiful (more color variation in the wood makes it decorative for furniture building). All the blue-grey markings on beetle kill pine wood are caused by various insects and beetles which makes every piece of wood unique.
